Anyone know where the serial number is located on the Ampeg Baby Basses from back in the day?

I looked. Nada, nothing, zilch

On mine, the serial number is stamped into the tailpiece support casting (or whatever it’s called), right by where the peg is inserted. If you have your bass standing up, lay on the ground under it and look up.

Another thing I just noticed is that under the clear coat, there are places where the instrument is gold in color, not just the sunburst. Does that seem right? It isn't a refin.

No serial number and weird paint. Could it be a prototype?

Maybe you’re seeing the uvex (a filling foam) inside the body through the plexiglass.
I had a BB very similar to yours 30 years ago and there was a serial number somewhere, just don’t remember where.
