Double Bass Ampeg Bass

Hi All,

I have an Ampeg base, The serial number is a 6-digit number starting with 00. I am trying to look it up but getting nowhere. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Bill

Hello Bill;

If you do indeed have an Ampeg Bass, particularly one of the '66-'69 Scroll Bass models, come on over to this thread:

https://www.talkbass.com/threads/love-of-ampeg-and-other-scroll-basses-part-2.1044767/

It's 410 pages long, and counting, everything you could ever want to know about Ampeg Scroll Basses. I specialize in restoring the original Ampegs, and building my new-generation versions. I'm the main writer on that thread.

Go to the last page on that thread and put up a post about your bass, more info and pictures. We'll be right with you, and will answer any questions that you have about it.

Confused, do you mean you have an Ampeg bass guitar, like an AEB-1 or AUB-1?
Or do you mean you have an Ampeg bass amplifier? If so, what model?

Edit: corrected model numbers

I have a ampeg bass. Upright. Not a guitar. There is no model number. My dad had a big one, then downsized to this one. He called it a baby base. The serial number is 001323. It just has the Ampeg logo at the top.

Assuming you mean like the one in the background:

EDIT crossposted. Yes, it looks like you have an Ampeg Baby Bass.

I was able to lookup the year. It is 1965. I found their number system from 1965-1969. Thank you.,
Talkbass has this side for electric bass (guitars) as well as a Double (or Upright) bass section. An Ampeg Baby Bass (BB-4) would be considered an electric upright bass (EUB), and there's a megathread devoted to it:

Cool instrument, and I've heard highly sought after in the Latin music community.

I used to have one but sold it to get the first BSX upright which I also sold when I got a really good upright

Those are great - but I was told some of them may have a strong smell from the fiberglass. Either I am tolerant but I've never experienced that and I've played about 3 of those.
