They actually use 3 tubes so all 6 preamp stages are tube. It doesn't sound like an ampeg but it is definitely tube.

A full tube amp yes, but the 550 is a hybrid.

hah! no, i buy whatever i like. got a couple chinese basses, a japanese, and several american basses. however, my amps are all american, but i'd buy a chinese ampeg if i needed another one and i could get a good deal on it.

btw, hybrids =/= tube amps.

try an 800RB.. it's not going to sound like an Ampeg, but it has it's own tone that has been defined and it is respected..
