Ampeg going down the tubes ?

I know I won't buy Ampeg ever again.

I purchased a BA115HPT Combo to use for practicing...........Nice features, and tone, when working properly. :eyebrow: This amp ended up going to an "authorized repair center" for a few months, but was not able to be fixed............To Ampeg's credit they did replace it with a new one, but it took three more times after that to get one that worked!!!!:eek: Each amp they sent me was either damaged, or poor quality workmanship. The "cheap" screws broke holding horn & speaker, which in turn damaged the cabinet wood. One had the amp section forced into the cabinet and damaged.:mad: I can't say anything good about the Chinese Ampeg combos, and the BA115HPT is supposed to be one of their better models?:confused:

I was able to fix the last replacement amp they sent with some new screws, and it seemed to be working fine.:hmm: Since it was in new condition, I quickly traded it in, to avoid any further issues with Ampeg!:scowl:

Maybe the old USA tube heads are the best out there, but I will not spend any more of my money on the new foreign stuff!!!!:spit:

Best Buy is a big consumer electronics store that seemingly sprang up from nowhere about 15 years ago. Computers, TV's, stereos, phones, games, CD's, DVD's, etc.

:eyebrow:
Sorry, I just can't believe that, because of this formula:

The more drivers= More db.

With the same everything (Amp,cables,bass,any other hair splitting factors), except the cab;

Even if the quality of epifani drivers are way better (in a 410), it will not yield the same comparable db as an 810, maybe an epifany 610 might be an "almost" closer statement (IME). Vented cabs can make a somewhat difference,(Both the us and viet are sealed, don't know about the epifany that you mention) but to compare an 810 to a 410, not on any planet, at least not these cabs.

I own an SLM 810, have used the viet 810 also, I used my same amp, that I use for my SLM (SWR 'Mo Bass), No way, will i take a 410 cab and push the same air, not physically possible (imo)

How do they compare tone-wise?

Word is Best Buy is taking this serious and going to have separate dedicated sections to their music stores. I also read GC is none to happy about this. I bet GC whines to it's distributors that if you sell to BB you they won't carry your lines. It could get interesting.

That's just friggin' sad! Ampeg at BB. :rollno: Is this Loud's last ditch effort to salvage the ship that they sank???
Who cares where it's sold? What difference does that make? Equipment should be judged on its own merits and not where it's sold. It wasn't long ago that every department store had a music section where you could buy stuff, and much of it was really good stuff. I have a little 15w tube guitar combo that Montgomery Ward used to sell. And the Sears Silvertone stuff is legendary.

I agree.... But there's already many reports of shoddy QC with Ampeg since "the move". Now, they are gonna need to push how much more in volume to fill the shelves of a monster retailer like BB? How's that going to affect QC?

I've already written off Ampeg and sold what little gear I had. I personally don't care if it's sold at Toys R Us anymore. :D
