Hey all..when I turn on my new Micro VR, the fan comes on immediately and seems to remain on. Is this normal for this amp?

Ampeg Micro VR Fan Problem??

Well let me say this. I work at a studio and do some session work and I haven't recorded this amp yet but the fan is loud so just keep it isolated and let it swing. Loud as heck in my bedroom though, the fan that is
um, yeah, it's pretty normal for the fan to work. that helps the amp to keep working
Lol...maybe I should have been more clear with my question. What I meant was "Is the fan supposed to run all the time as opposed to only when the unit hits a certain temperature?" On some amp heads, the fan only kicks in when it gets hot. I appreciate Ampeg's attempts to cool my house but I've got that covered
The fan on mine runs lightly all the time and gets going really well when playing. After a song I can usually hear it wind down the the baseline level.
My SWR Headlight has one of the noisiest fans I've ever heard on any amp - so noisy that it could never be used in a studio unless it was completely isolated from any live mics. I do not know if this is normal, as I've never had the chance to listen to the fan on a Headlight other than my own. You would think that Ampeg, SWR & others would use the quietest fans possible, especially given the cost & intended use of these products.
dude, i used to record in the studio with an svt, whose fan made those fans sound like there were no fans in them. t boggles my mind that anyone could freak out so hard about those dinky little fans that you can barely tell are even on.
+1. My SVTs in comparison to my pre-power setup (and every head I've tried) sounded like a hurricane coming through.
Hey Jimmy...just for the record, I'm not concerned with the noise. I was just wondering if the fan was supposed to run constantly. I agree with you..I've played amps that have much louder fans than this Micro VR and it's never posed a problem.

IMO the fan on the VR is too loud for the recording i wanted to do (and pretty much too loud for the quiet acoustic gigs i play).
I'm guessing its a pretty crappy component. Going to try and replace with an upgraded unit.

I know this is an ancient thread, but does anyone recommend a QUIET aftermarket fan? Mine is loud too.
Both of my old SVTs were whisper-quiet compared to the HeadLite.
Turns out the HeadLite had a defective fan.
BTW, not "freaking out", just disappointed with the cheap fan.
