Ampeg Micro VR?? Opinions?

Okay, well I would probably just use one cab since its primary use would be a practice amp. Leaning towards the VR head now.

While that little stack is killer, I've yet to find a head that I prefer more than the GB Shuttle series. Got a 3.0 on it's way and will be most likely pairing it with 2 x 210AV Love the hifi sound of the head matched with the more vintage vibe of the cabs, and a 50lb total micro/modular 410 setup is always a plus too

I love GB too -- my two favorite heads to gig right now are my Shuttle 9.0 and SVT-CL.

I finally got to play through the vr head this week and I was pleasantly surprised. It was the backline head at the venue, and I played through an ampeg 410hlf.

I was impressed with the amount of volume, although I couldn't get a clean tone at the level I was playing at. Still the grit was very musical.

I added an svt-210 av cab for an extension of my markbass minimark. This setup is not going to vibrate the picnic table 200' away, but it works great for the band I play with, (Texas blues/shuffle). I play with the minimark facing me and the Ampeg facing out, and it's loud enough to feel the bass. I was thinking of just adding another 210 and running it with a markbass lm II, but I'm wary of the 500 watt rating...does anyone use this setup? I wouldn't be running the amp full out, no need for that.

As long as you don't run the cabs harder than they can take, you will be fine with an LMII. Or a PF500.

If a second 210 is not the best idea w/ VT head, could a 115 cab be run with the 210? Or is the issue running a second cab/speaker (regardless of size) with the VT?

If a 115 would work - any suggestions on make/model?

Again - looking for a lightweight/portable head/speaker that I could size up for certain gigs.

I still have mine......Thought about selling it but just can't seem to follow through. Over all I like the 210 av cab better than the micro vr head. The head just doesn't push enough volume for me (the tone is great though). The 210 av cab can really take a beating. I still use the 210 with my littlemark for practice.

The Micro VR seems like it is a rather anemic 200 watts, even for solid state. Even with 2 - 210 AV cabinets the Micro VR just isn't enough to do club gigs with and is rather underpowered even for rehearsal. And that's if you get a Micro that doesn't pop and crack with 2 - 210 AV cabs. Remember that solid state wattage is really a lot less to the ear than tube wattage. This is NOT a mini SVT except in looks. It is disturbing that the amp distorts so early and easily even with the simple limiter engaged.
You would be a whole lot better off with a PF 350 head for the price range.

While I couldn't disagree more with your assessment of the Micro VR (except for the pop and crack issue, which has cleared up in mine and doesn't happen to most folks), I do agree that if you plan to run two cabs, a PF350 is a somewhat better choice. Costs the same, sounds the same, has a little more wattage, and the only real downside is it doesn't look like a mini-SVT-VR.

I have a brand new Micro VR head just bought this year 2022, and I thought it sounded pretty damn and very svt like whith the 220av can and micro VR head elevated off the ground sitting on top of my alleged ba115 combo. I notice TBE highest I can turn the head up is the master at 3 and the gain at noon with whatever bass turned up about halfway. Any more volume than that and it seems like the micro VR and the 210 av cab is starting to get pushed to hard and it starts losing that nice bottom end and starts to get to midrange and sounds like crap. I do have the second 210av cab and have hooked it up. It does make the low-end sum what deeper and is sum what louder . it seems like for just bedroom practice volume the micro VR sounds best turned up no more then the volume mentioned above. It kind a seems like 2 of the 210av cabs are over kilk for the bedroom. It almost dreamed to take away dome of that svt tone that comes from using just one 210av and the micro VR at about half way up. Does anyone else feel this way?
