Ampeg PF-50T loose transformer covers

I recently tried to sell an Ampeg PF-50T bass head. The tranformer covers appear to have been bent during shipping.

See how the one on the right is just a little crooked, while the one on the left is really distorted. I refunded the buyers purchase and had him ship it back to me.

Unfortunately, this made the matter worse. On the left side, the transformer casing (which appears to be just sheet metal that's more ornamental than actually protective) was completely unattached. They appear to be held in by just two tabs that go into slots on the amp casing. When I opened up the box, both tabs were separated from the body.

On the right side, the casing was even more crooked than the picture that the seller sent. (At least it was still attached somewhat.)

Looking at the design, I can't imagine this doesn't happen a fair bit. I actually packed it pretty well, with lots of padding around the unit. However, it appears that when UPS tossed the box (as they sometimes (often?) do). the contents inside were shaken fairly violently. These sheet metal covers bent and eventually (after a couple consecutive shipments) came completely loose on one side and just more loose on the other.

I'm going to have someone repair the amp and will either keep it or sell it locally. (I'm nervous about the voltages in the caps, so I'm a bit gun-shy to just open it up myself. I'll have a pro do it.)

No way am I ever going to take the chance on shipping this particular amp again.

Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? I did a search and got no hits, but I'd be shocked if this hasn't happened to someone else, especially given how many people post about owning them.

Shipping damage happens, transformers are heavy and amps with heavy transformers require careful packaging to prevent damage. I say this from the perspective of a company that shops thousands of tube guitar amps.

Sorry that happened Artek. I don't ship amps but I have received rare vintage tube amps that suffered shipping damage due to inadequate packaging by the seller.

If I was shipping a valuable tube amp I would pack it way beyond what I think is merely adequate.

You never know what your package may have to withstand.
