Ampeg Portaflex question?

I've got a 1963 Ampeg B-15N portaflex amp, i cant find the serial number, where is it?

Woah there, that's an early one with the jewel light. A rare bird I believe. Anyhow, if it's like my 65, the serial should be near the tube chart and/or schematic. If you have a tube chart in the cabinet that's where it should be. If not, check the schematic which should be (again assuming it's like the amps I have/had/have played) under the chasis of the amp, there could be something written there.

that's the problem, i dont have the cabinet that goes with it, is there a serial number on the amp anywhere?

If there isn't one on the schematic (should be attached to the bottom platform of the head, you could probably see if it you shine a light in there) then not likely. On the "newer" amps (later 60s on) they were on the back of the head, above the power cord, but that doesn't really help you.

My '63 doesnt have a serial # on the back of the head either, but inside the amp on the "back wall" of the chasis is where a sticker of some sort had once been. Might want to check there?

Unfortunately, the inside sticker on the '63 doesn't have a serial number. The sticker on mine has four lines: "Wired By", "Inspected By", "Tested By", and "Final Insp. By".

reecebors89, you can roughly date the amp from the codes on the pots, transformers, can cap, and shock mounts.
