Ampeg repair in Houston?

Call Rockin Robin and see if Scott Waugh is still doing their vintage repair.I think Robin has two guys doing repair,but I believe Scott is doing all the vintage stuff.

Not that an '06 is vintage but it is an SVTcl.


You could also call Orq and see who he uses............

Thanks--I've heard of Scott -- he did some work for my pal Davee Bryan back in the day. Last I checked with the Robin, Mike Fratus was actually their guy until just recently and now it's somebody else named Doug, whom I don't know anything about yet. Not that there was any problem with Mike, apparently he was just tied up with something else for awhile.

I don't know why I haven't asked Orq yet, I should. I did ask Tommy Luna--he's the one who filled me in on who Rockin' Robin is using.

He did a nice job repairing a Groove Tubes bass preamp for me.

Thanks! I have already corresponded with Mike about possibly working on my amp -- he agreed but wasn't terribly enthusiastic about it. I may just look past that in the end, not only because of your recommendation but because he's so close by.

Once upon a time, maybe 6 or 7 years ago, Bart was sending the vintage stuff out. I don't recall where or to whom he sent it, but they did a great job on several tube amps (bass and guitar) for $$$. But it was worth it to get it done right. If they don't do Ampeg, surely Bart or one of his folks would know where to go.

Thanks for the heads-up ...on the Parker Music (Mars Repair) tech ...as a side note ...seems that all the old school techs are retiring and there is really no one in town filling that void of lost, repair knowledge ...as it pertains to old tube amps

Just a little update... after weighing all the feedback I got here, I've decided to go with Mike Fratus. (http://www.tubemodules.com/) He's got me on a waiting list and should be ready for me in about 2 weeks, and from there the repair should only take 2 or 3 days (unless he has to order parts). I'll post another update when I have more news.

I can vouch for Mars Electroinics (inside Parker Music)- they repaired my Svt 3 Pro in the past. I can't think of his name but he specializes Ampeg and GK amps. I think he once worked for Ampeg...

I came here to help address some of the previous Questions-
We do have a Bench fee for amp repair. Most shops do.
For the guitar repair side, we do not have a bench fee.
This is due to the time of taking apart the amp and removing the chassis and tracing out the problems...

We do however, occasionally offer a reduced fee if the amp is completely fubarred and well above a practical repair cost.
its on a case by case basis of course.

When an amp comes in for repair, the bench fee is there to cover shops cost to determine the issues.
In the event the consumer wishes to not have it fixed, we are covered for our costs and expenses.
if you DO want the amp fixed, the entire bench fee is applied to the repair.

So it works out rather well for both end user and repair shop.

Anyway, if you need top quality work done in a reasonable time frame, we're your shop.
