Ampeg replacement parts / SVT 2 pro

I don’t think so, it’s not front to back because the front panel is solid.

There were several versions, some had no fan and some had an odd bottom to top fan. I haven’t seen any others.

Because of this, I would expect that an extra unit above would be helpful since these amps run pretty hot.

I think there is some air flow through gaps at eq sliders on the front panel. Maybe that’s more a coincidence than by design. The side panels are also perforated where the amp is not as wide as front panel so maybe the idea was to get the airflow from the back of the rack and through the sides. Either way, leaving some space above the amp is probably a good idea to allow the heat to dissipate more. They get hot but I have never had any overheating problem with any of the svts so far.
 
So I gather a 5U is a good idea. If not a custom perforated top plate :D

Any air flow through the gaps is way too small to be meaningless.

The fan was added to mitigate heating issues in order to comply with the evolving safety standards of the time. That design as is probably wouldn’t comply with the safety requirements for touch temperatures under current standards. Yes, the amp runs hot.

So the solution for me was to get a custom cut and drilled plate. The alternative was to buy another amp just for the plate which is not feasible. Replacement plate is not exactly the same but it’s close. I’m still thinking about getting a fully perforated plate, like a mesh. I just don’t like the idea of something falling through it into the amp.
