I don't want to start a quality war, but the three major latin bass players in Western MA (who I know personally) own Sendel-made Baby Bass replicas. Sendel is the company of Fernando Garcia, from Colombia. I am interested myself in a Baby bass and have done a lot of research, and Sendel comes very highly recommended among Latin players. I don't know Mauricio's work, but I exchanged some emails with Fernando Garcia and he claimed that his basses came made with higher quality materials than other Colombian counterparts. He claimed he had been the first to start making replicas in Colombia.
All I can say is that I've heard Sendel replicas...they sound great...in fact, one of the players remarked that he liked his Sendel replica more than his Vintage Ampeg...said the pickup was punchier and clearer than the Vintage Ampeg he owns. So...go figure.

I was told by Fernando Garcia that a traditional Baby Bass replica would cost $1200...including hard-case, insurance, and shipping to anywhere in the U.S. Much better than the prices of Azola, Ray Ramirez or even a vintage...some may say that the quality of the ones I mentioned is better...but...take it from somebody who sees a lot of Latin shows on a monthly basis...I've heard the areas three Latin bass players all play Sendel replicas...they sounded GREAT. I personally asked all three what they used, what they owned, and why they liked Sendel. Mauricio Gomez (MOG basses) sells for about $900-1,000...but, I had at least one of the bass players give me a negative review. Claimed he didn't think the quality of the sound could match the Sendel (maybe speculation, but...hey, he's been playing baby bass longer than I have) For, 1200.00, it's worth it getting the Sendel, I think.
As soon as I can raise the money, I'm putting my order with Sendel
