Ampeg SVP Pro mods?

I know there has been a lot of complaints over the years about the noise/hiss from these pre-amps but I haven't really heard if there are any mods or fixes or if there are any repair gurus out there that can make it right.
My biggest problem is that when I'm using the D.I. to recoed in the post position, the level is really quiet. In the pre position it's great but then no EQ.
Anyone got any suggestions besides buying another pre-amp?

I think there were 3 versions of the SVP. IIRC the earliest version had noise problems.

I think this unit is discontinued. I owned one in the past and when it worked it was great.

Way discontinued
I borrowed one for a month years ago and it hissed badly
Some here report no hiss problems
