AMPEG SVT 1510 CABINET

Hello. I stumbled upon one of these. Looks interesting.

I did some research and found there were 2 models.

SVT 1510E
SVT 1510HE

I am not sure which one this was. It's a little bigger, than a 410HE or HEN.

I couldn't seem to find impedance, freq. response, cabinet rating.

I mainly want to know impedance as I'm gonna stack a 410 on top of it if it's the right impedance.

Any help or links would be appreciated.

After modifying my search some more, I found these:

175 RMS at 8-Ohms.

Not too shabby. Think I'll snag it and put it under my 410HEN!

I found this from an ebay listing here:

AMPEG SVT-1510HE

The SVT-1510HE is an 8 Ohms speaker cabinet with 1x15" speaker, 1x10" speaker and 1x4" horn. The Cabinet is rated at 175W. The high frequency horn has an attenuator for OFF, -6dB and 0dB. There are two parallel inputs. This cabinet will match up with other "Classic" series Ampeg products. The casters align with the insets on the cabinets for stacking and the rubber feet on the heads (SVT-CL, SVT-350H, V4B) line up with the insets.

Some small tears on the outer edges of covering but fully working and sounds great.

Item to be collected in person due to size or send your own carrier.

Dimensions of the cab are 75 x 61 x 40cm"

That makes it 29.5 x 24 x 15.75 in inches.

SVT410HE's are 25 x 24 x 16 so it should stack fairly well!

Just an update on this 1510. I purchased one and received it today. These seem to be popping up all over as of late. Saw on on ebay and one at my local guitar center.

Sure enough the back says "Ampeg, SLM Electronics." 175 Watts, 8-Ohm Impedence. The top of the cabinet has rests for casters for other cabinets and the typical feet rests you see on the other ampeg cabs for heads to rest on.

I took the grill off (mine is missing the white piping-but an easy fix) and checked it out. The horn looks very different than that of my svt 410HEN.

You might be able to see it in the pictures, but there is a big square for the port hole. My cat went right in there! lol.

I reached and to feel around and the chamber where the 10-inch woofer is held is sealed off from the 15. The 10" and the 15" each have their own airspace.

I havent had a chance to plug it in and check it out yet.

On another note-I purchased planet waves speaker cables cause I wanted a 5-ft and GC had nothing less than 10 in a monster speaker cable. The design is WAY better and I think I will switch out all cables for Planet waves

yeah the rating is low. I think they were made to stack.

I have a Peavey Classic 400. I never turn it past 3 or 5. 5 would probbaly cause dinosaurs to walk the earth again.

I think it will be fine. That's 675 watts RMS I can throw at it.

1350 Peak!

Ampeg's 15's or only 25 watts more @ 200 Watts, 8-ohm.

Well hooked it up and tried practice with it. If anyones aware of the Peavey Classic 400..yeah..I had to have help putting it on top of the stack since it was like 90 pounds.

Anyways. Switched the impedance switch on the back and I was off. Alot more depth in the bottom end. Clean and punch. Good LOW mids. Lowness and depth you can feel. The sound is still round and not at all boomy.

Since there was a such a presence in the low mids, I decided to roll back the mid switch from 800hz to 600hz. Now Im getting some tone. Super chunky distortion from the crunch channel, low end growl and depth. No boominess.

Im officially a big fan of the Svt-1510HE! :hyper:

Now I'm at a stalwart since the Peavey sounds so incredibly good, placing it atop the stack-o-doom is gonna be a bit rough.

Its a bit taller than an 8x10 do to the airspace from the 15 and the height of the Peavey. The Marshall full stack next to it is just say, about 6 to 7 inches taller?

2 of these would sound awesome and they would look totally bad-ass tacked on top since they are mega tall.

I wonder why Ampeg stopped making them? I'm a big fan of the 1540 too. if I were to get a fridge, id opt for a 1540.

Here's a picture of it!

I have a AMPEG 1510 too, bought it somewhere in the early 90's. I was into "stingray slappin'" then and thought I would benefit from the extended range of the 1510 (from 15" low thumps with the extra punch from the 10" to agressive high tweeter plucks).
I have a old Faylon BK-30 tubeamp playing on it (That's a Belgian brand making amps and speakers in the 70's, I have no idea how much power it has...I never turned it louder than '5' I guess)
I remeber that in the 90's AMPEG advertized the 1510 as keyboard cabinet as well.
I have always liked it very much and still do but don't play it that much since i have a ashdown 'perfect 10' and a korg pandora px4...

The Ampeg 1510 cabinets are 8 ohm cabs rated at 175 watts.
As a tech, I indeed used 2 of these as keyboard cabinets powered by a huge Crest amplifier and controlled by a 24 channel Studiomaster mixer for the many keyboards used by Greg Phillinganes for several Eric Clapton tours.
I have them now and play a variety of bass heads through them-SVT, GK 400RB, Ampeg Micro, and they sound awsome! Very full range and smooth. They were definitely made to stack as they have non-removeable wheels. (except with a screwdriver or hammer)

how would this cab pair with another ampeg 1x15? I figure good, just like a 2x15 cab just with better mids and highs from the horn and 10"
honestly, i think it would suck. i haven't tried that one, but i have used the big fridge sized cab with the 410 on top and the 115 on bottom, and it sucks imho. it phases pretty badly, and the 115 puts out just enough volume to screw with the 410 in a bad way.

however, i'm not the last word, and i do know folks who like them. but it makes no sense from a tech standpoint.

so what your saying the 2x15's would over power the horn and 10", so its not worth having them there?
actually, it's more because of phasing problems than overpowering. lows need more power than highs and mids so the 10" would probably compete if it's crossed over properly, unlike the 410/115 setup where the 115 is overpowered. i could be wrong, but i think the 15 and 10 are both run full range in that cab.

I didnt know this, and I prolly should, Im running that setup now, a 4x10 and a 1x15, to me it doesnt sound that bad, then again I dont have anything else to base it off of.
it's not your fault. there is a butt-ton of engineering by looks going on in musical instrument amplification, and once people got the idea in their heads that a 115 always has better lows than a 410 (not true at all, btw), the amp makers were more than happy to try to capitalize on it. give the people what they want, you know?
