Ampeg SVT-212AV

Hey all!

Resurrecting a bit of an older thread since I'm consider an Ampeg 212AV. I currently have a Bergantino HD410 that I run with my 80s MTI SVT. It sounds great, but the cab seems a bit hifi for my tastes at times. I just got a 210AV for my practice rig and am really digging that, so I'm considering swapping my 410 out for the 212AV. Losing ~22 pounds of cab weight wouldn't hurt either! I mostly play small to medium-sized rock clubs (100-300 people). A few questions for the experts among us:

1) Do you think I'll miss out on anything tone-wise in moving from the Berg 410 setup to the SVT 212AV? Punch, clarity, definition? Obviously they're very different cabs, but wondering if the decrease in speaker area will have any major negative side effects.
2) Seems silly, but are the indents on top of the cab spaced correctly for my MTI SVT? The MTI amps are bigger than other SVTs, so not sure if the feet on the bottom of my amp would fit in the indents or not...if not, that could be a problem in terms of stability on top of the cab.
1. Only you can answer.

2. I doubt they'll fit an MTI as they're designed to fit the current V4B, but it's usually not hard to figure out a way to sit an SVT on it.

IMHO - Don't do it. The 212 AV is not nearly as loud. I was very disappointed in the 212. I just picked up a 410HE and it is so much better. I don't really like the boomieness (new word) of the HLF.
The indents will match fine.

Surprised you think it's not loud enough. I have used it on 100+ gigs per year since 2012. It has played arenas and had no problem being loud enough with an Ampeg SVT-CL on it. It's the best cab I have owned to date besides my 8x10.

I’m a fan of this combo. 0CE60B1D-08A2-4A49-BD01-D69B16B56DD1.jpeg

Problem is people will turn their amps up to a good volume early in a set, then when the crowd starts gettin all crazy, us bassplayers start hitting the strings harder as a result of adreneline. So you're cruising along at 300w RMS (into a 500w cab) when you nail a BIG CHORD and the amp throws out a burst of 550w of peak power.... POW!! Cab is done. Use compression if you're afraid because it limits the spikes and will protect your speakers.
Isn't that what a limiter does?
