Ampeg SVT 3 Pro USA vs Korea

Hello!

I’m traveling to the USA in a few weeks, and I’m thinking on buying a used SVT 3 Pro. I see there are two versions, one made in the USA and one made in Korea (which is guess is newer, or even the one in production now).

Is there a noticeable difference between the two?

Also, has the brand new sold by Ampeg some kind of upgrade vs the classic versions?

Make sure the amp you're thinking of buying will run on 220 Volts.

It’s kind of impossible to find a 220v Ampeg in the USA. I’ll probably use a power transformer back here in Argentina.

It's been the same head with little or no changes for a couple decades, although suppliers and brands of parts may have changed. Build quality is unchanged regardless of where it was made.

They were made in Korea for a little while but have been made in China for a few uears. Recently Yamaha bought Ampeg, and I don't know where they will be making them, but I don't think they have started shipping new amps just yet.

Korean made amps were good. Vietnam made models in general have a bad reputation for having quality problems. As a result, they can sell for less. If it's an old amp and works, you should be fine.

The SVT-3P can be wired internally to run on 100VAC, 120VAC, 230VAC, and 240VAC line voltages. If you are planning to make a purchase and have the serial number, contact customer service to confirm this is the case for your revision and have them email you the export wiring diagram.
