i bought an ampeg svt-410hlf cabinet about two years ago. about one year ago i started hearing some nasty distorting so i called up warranty and they replaced it with a brand new one. now my second one is distorting. even at low volumes i can hear an unwanted fuzz, it isn't really apparent but you can definitely hear it and even at louder volumes i can hear a sound like there is glass inside of the cabinet rattling (that is the only way i can think to describe it). i called the warranty today and they said they no longer replace equipment so i have to take it to my local guitar and electronics shop and have it repaired. the only problem is, my band plays shows about twice a week and we practice about 2 or 3 times a week. we have a show this saturday, a television appearance on monday, and then a huge city wide battle of the bands next saturday. either way i will be taking my cabinet into the shop to get it fixed but i was wondering if any of you had any ideas as to what is causing my problem so i can have some idea as to how long it will take to be fixed. my dad, who has played bass for over 40 years, thinks that it has to do with the horn circuitry. i always play with my horn off so i think i'm going to tell the shop, if that's even the problem, to just leave it unhooked or bypassed so i won't have to deal with it anymore. any input as to what's going on? i've already tested it with multiple cables and two different heads so i am positive it is the cabinet.

I used to own one of these cabs and I had a similar problem. When this started happening did you lose any low frequency from the tone, or does it just sound distorted? Both happened to mine. I took it to my local shop, figuring I had blown a speaker or something, tested it several times, and everything seemed to be fine. I actually ended up selling a little later because I was looking for something else anyway, so I didn't really get involved in resolving the matter.
Might be a loose component inside the cab????? Tweeter fuse??? I dunno. I had one a cuppla yrs ago & it was fine, so I've no experience in the matter, but have heard of the tweeter components having probs.
The first thing to do is to try and determine if the noise is a cabinet rattle or if it's being produced by the drivers or horn. I had problems with dust in a 410hlf horn which sounded for all the world like a blown tweeter. I took the tweeter apart, ran a business card around the voice coil gap to clean it out and it was as good as new. But try and figure out where it's coming from first.

i figured out it was coming out of my bottom left speaker so i just replaced it myself. is there an easy way to just disconnect the horn so i won't have to mess with it? i never use it and i wish the cabinet had not come with one but oh well.
yeah i always do that but i was just thinking that if i unhooked it i would never have to worry about it malfunctioning and being a problem for me.
