Ampeg SVT-CL DI/Balanced Out

That’s my worry - that it’s noisy. Ideally a DI between amp and cab wouldn’t be, but there’s only one way to find out. I have a Tech 21 Bass VT DI which I’ve been using live, but now I’ve got the real thing I’d like to get as much of that SVT sound out front. The Tech 21 stuff is great but now I’ve played my SVT, I’ve realised nothing can emulate that.

The Tech 21 VT Bass Deluxe is analog and does a good job of reproducing the SVT sound.

I'm not so sure. I've recorded with the VT DI and the Deluxe before, not both in the same session - and whilst they're very good and I liked what they did, I don't think they come that close to getting that SVT sound. FWIW, I used the VT DI on my board as my DI to FOH on the last tour.

I thought they did reproduce the SVT sound accurately, but since getting an SVT I've come to learn that the only way to get the SVT sound is to get an SVT. Did I say 'SVT' enough there?

Are you using a VT or the VT Deluxe. The Deluxe does a good job of reproducing the SVT sound but you have to play around with it. Nothing will reproduce an SVT 100% accurately but the VT Deluxe is the closest I’ve found.

I'm not using either anymore. I used a VT Deluxe in the studio about 18 months ago and bought a VT DI back in October which has been on my board since, until now.

Don't get me wrong, I like them, but since I heard my SVT-CL, I can't get enough of that and anything else pales in comparison.

Yeah, I feel the same about Ampeg tube amps in general. The VT was a groundbreaker when it came out, but you can definitely tell the difference.
