My SVT is Cutting out. Any tips before i take it to my tech? He told me to check the preamp tubes.

jmpiwonka said:yeah, i had some simple problems with my svtII when i got it
signal would get weak intermittently, sometimes a bit of static sounding noise
tried putting a patch cable into the effect send/return jacks (or preamp out/amp in) and it didn't help
took it to my tech after it started cutting out intermittently in a more consistent fashion
he said it wouldn't pass signal and it was the amp in jack, he cleaned it and it worked fine after that
then it did the same thing recently except almost everytime i could flip it on standby and back off real quick and it would start working normal again
so i plugged my bass into the amp in jack again, power section worked fine
told my tech and he said it sounded like an intermittently working tube
i have a phono amp that takes 12ax7 tubes so i pulled the preamp tubes outta the svt and put them in my phono amp, a 6 month old reissue tung sol that was in the V3 slot had a dead triode so put a vintage 12ax7 in the svt that i had...has worked fine since...
so give those two things a try
patch cable in the effects loop or preampout/amp in jacks...
also when it cuts out plug your bass into the amp in effects return jack and see if your power section is working ok...
