ampeg svt made in korea vs vietnam

I have an opportunity to pick up new made in korea ampeg svt-cl for $600. I have read a lot of strong opinions on the new ampegs, but it seems all based on vietnam made models and after inspecting and testing it, it seems good and at this price I am having a hard time turning it down, korean made be damned. Does anyone know the story on korean made ampegs? I am only curious about vietnamese vs korean craftmanship, please resist the urge to reply that all asian made ampegs are worthless, or that Korean made is no better, if you don't have specific knowedge to support it...

Thats an incredable deal! I wouldnt worry much about the overseas built ampegs. Mine was made in vietnam and when i opened it to change tubes i noticed all the cuircut boards and components said slm on them anyways. Amp has been great, only problem i had was a bad driver tube in it when i got it which took a while to track down. Ampeg customer service is outstanding. I recieved emails back from them the same day i sent them and Dino is a great person to deal with. Dont let that deal slip away. Also some people claim the new svt's dont sound as good as the old ones but i have owned 2 older ones and i actually prefer the new classic.

I just knew that as soon as I bought my Vietnam SVT someone would start a Korea vs Vietnam thread. I suppose the next thing will be USA vs Vietnam vs Korea! Just enjoy and play, guys - when I bought my Mesa 400+ it had two trips back to the shop before it was giggable. My Vietnam VR has been flawless form the start, yet the CL which I tried and rejected had a hum problem and I think was a USA one. I am fast coming to the conclusion that these days you can't simply judge a mass produced tube amp by its place of manufacture, you have to try it and preferably gig it, unfortunately. At least in the USA you have a five year warranty, down here it does not apply and I had to talk hard just to get two years!

I picked it up of course, though its going to be a rough month, I wasn't planning on buying a head until next year, and certainly couldnt afford it, even at 600$ I owe some people big time for helping me out. The reason it was so cheap: musicians friend clearance center had it as a scratch and dent because it was opened and used once for an employee party at a club. It came back minus box and manual and power cable, but in mint condition. So they were selling it at like $1575. I walk in looking for a new strap, and see they're having a surprise 60% off all S&D sale. I wish I had a few thousand bucks to spare, there were some insane deals there, but that was by far the best one. So far so good, sounds looks and works great so far.

Well BOUGHT O'l chap!!! Now it's down to the food shelter!! ;-)

There was a thread re Korean Ampegs a short time ago. General consensus was that Korean ones had the potential to be the best ones for a while as Korea make a quantity of good Elec. equip. & have been for a while.,.. where-as Vietnam hadn't as much experience. IMO........ As tim1 says- ENJOY 'em don;t really matter where it's made, how it IS is the thing. I bet you it's a beauty!!!

i have worked in some electronic manufacturing company before and my boss was korean and majority of my co-worker were korean. i've seen how they worked. they are perfectionist! so if there are two amps in front of me. one is U.S. made and the other korean? I would chose the one made in korea. now if i'm buying bass guitar, of coarse i will get one that is made in U.S.A. i'm just on the side of korean when we are talking of quality and electronics. wood on U.S.A

That's pretty random. Wood is wood. It's the curing and selection process that separates the wood in cheap Korean guitars from expensive USA guitars, not where the wood comes from. Korea is capable of getting the same quality of wood as everyone else.

im using a vietnam ampeg svt3 pro amp and knock on would it has been good to me,i couldnt pass it up i bought it used at a local music go roung for 450.00 bucks.i also
owned an slm svt3 pro in the 90s and to be totally honest i hear no difference,t

I have done a little research down here and have not been able to find anyone having trouble with Nampegs (small sample - 11 users but it is New Zealand). The only issue seems to have been mine with a new old stock USA CL whioch I did not take from the shop because of noise/hum problems.
Again, if it is working well just enjoy the darned thing and play it - stop worrying about where it comes from!
