Ampeg SVT Mod?

Hey guys, so a local amp guru is trying to sell an 80's modded SVT-CL and include the 'mod' on my current SVT.. Mine is US model from the 90's and has only had a power capacitor melt once.. Not sure of this mod.. have any of you guys heard of it or would recommend it?? Pretty happy with my old faithful SVT-CL and not sure I need to worry about it but definitely has me wondering now!

From amp dude:
"Do these other amps have Kevin O’Connors Mod? Obviously not and they will be prone to failure. This amp will not. If you would like this Mod done to your SVT, contact me, for it is only a matter of time before your amp will melt down in this area.
I do electronics work and can protect your SVT."

Without knowing what the modification is, and then checking that out with our array of tube experts here, run do not walk away from that science fair project.

The guy has written some amp books though.

So if I'm understanding correctly, he beefs up the screen resistor for the power tubes so it won't blow when a power tube goes kaput? If so, I don't think I like that, as that's its whole purpose in life. If I'm wrong, though, never mind :D

Putting a larger wattage resistor is not a good idea. Putting a larger value resistor can be, as it extends tube life. In fact SLM issued a Technical Information Bulletin in 2001 to change the screen resistors from 22 ohms to 220 ohms 1/2W for this exact purpose. See attached.
