Ampeg SVT410HE vs B410HLF

So I've been saving up for an SVT410HE but somebody has just offered the B410HLF to me for a very cheap price. So I'd just like to know your opinions.

I know the SVT is essentially a 'cornerstone' in bass amplification. But at the same time, I've heard the B series uses similar speakers. So other than build quality and the wattage/ohms of the two cabs, how do they compare in terms of sound quality?

I'm definitely leaning toward the SVT but if somebody has tried the B410 and can vouch for its tone, i may give it a little more consideration (seeing as its a LOT cheaper and i can get more volume out of the 4ohms).



Edit: I've tried both cabs and was happy with them. But I've never A/B'd them as i can't find a store that has both.

I use the Svt 410hlf, i love it, it has a lot of bottem end with the ports

meh, a smaller 4Ω cab usually just means you can't add another for bigger gigs.

no good, since the volume increase from the higher amp power is not nearly as big as the volume increase from a second cab.

u have a good point, i didnt think of it that way, i use the svt 4 pro so i can use two 4 ohms,

I've used a B410hlf on a gig before and I thought it was a pretty good cab. Not quite as deep as the SVT410hlf but still went very low. Not sure how hard you can smack it, but it sounded good to me. I'd rather have the 410HE, though. That's more my thing.

B cabs are a cheaper series and, anyway, the 410HE is maybe the best 4x10 ever made

When I bought my SVT410HLF many years ago, I tested it back to back with the B410HLF. I can't remember the ampeg amp I used at the store. Anyway the B410HLF sounded very good, it was cleaner and clearer. The SVT410HLF had more growl and a bit more thump. I went with the SVT410HLF. I found out later that my cab was made in the era when they made them of MDF. I still like the cab and don't really have any regrets getting the SVT version, though I think I would have been happy with the B serses 410HLF.

I currently run an Ampeg SVT3pro as a preamp through a Crown K1 into a SVT410HLF and a BXT210M. The 210 adds a nice clearness to the sound.

THREAD RESURRECTION! I just found 2 b410s on CL for 150 for both... One speaker is in need of replacement, but other than that they seem to be in working condition! I will post back when I go to look at them and check em out!

I have recently upgraded from the B410HLF to the SVT410HLF and couldn't be happier! It sounds so much fuller, with better low end.
