Ampeg SVT810 Question

im finally going to upgrade to an ampeg 8x10 soon, but i was just scouring auctions and came across somebody selling an early 80s one that had a description that threw me:

"It is very versatile in that you can use it in full mode which uses one amp to drive all 8 speakers or divide the top 4 speakers to be run by one amp channel and the bottom 4 from another. This allows you to either put a guitar through the top 4 and a bass through the bottom 4 or other special setups like using a crossover on the two parts to allow one section to be a sub while the other section is playing higher frequencies."

bit confused by the last part regarding the crossover.. ive got an svt2pro head, not really looking to lug around a second one, but i do use quite a few effects in 2 paths, few of which are meant for guitar frequencies, so the idea of being able to isolate those kinda sounds coming out of my chain to say the top 4 speakers so its while the bottom 4 goes all low freq is interesting to me. is this what this person above is suggesting is possible, or is it referring to solely using two amps?

could someone explain to me a crossover setup like ima 2 year old. :o

Unless this is something this person did to their own cab, or I'm mistaken, I don't think they started doing the separated sections in the ampeg 810s until the mid-late 90s.

The internal wiring is set up so that you have the option of running it as the full cab (8x10s, 4 ohms) or two 8 ohm 4x10 sections. The poster was talking about using it with two amps or running an amp into a crossover so that one 4x10 gets low frequencies, one 4x10 gets high frequencies. Kind of pointless IMO, but whatever.

If you're talking about this auction, it looks like it's just the info copied from the ampeg website/manual, and that cab isn't from the 80s, it's a modern cab with the anniversary (AV) styling.

Boy, that cab's beat to shreds for something he's asking $600 for. And while you CAN use each half with an outboard crossover to separate the two sections, nobody does because it's a full range cab and it's not really necessary.

thanks for clarifying, does sound pointless, im just always looking to complicate things... and oh yeah not considering that auction at all, that bit just threw me... not sure where i pulled the 80s part from, ebay induced sleep issues.

There's another auction for an MTI pair - head and cab - that says early 80s with a BIN of $1300. Freaking steal if you ask me.
