Hello. I finally cracked open a broken V4-B that I bought a while ago and noticed that there are two vacant power tube sockets, as well as crude metal plates around the 12s and 6K11. I have never seen another one of these in the nude, but this looks a bit weird. I think I remember reading something about frankensteined amps during the Magnavox transition but I have no idea if this is normal or something else. The manufacturing number is 1AP002; serial is 28382. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated!

Ampeg V4-B: Six power tube sockets?

Can you post a pic? The '73 Magnavox V4-B that I have is a very clean build. They do have a punched alum. plate covering the pre PCB and power PCB.
I don't have a camera but may be able to post pics tomorrow.
I took the plates off and they don't seem so odd anymore, although the preamp section has quite a few empty cap and resistor spots. The 6k11 section is only 1/3 populated and has empty spots for caps, resistors and two sockets (V202 and V203). There are also wires running, from what I can tell, into the two extra power tube sockets. Pictures would probably help a lot.

Pics deff. If the grey matter is still functional, the same base PCB was used for the Bass amp and Guitar amp. not all the PCB is stuffed on Bass models (no reverb or Trem.)

Yeah, I figured the pre differences were due to board sharing, although I never considered the trem/verb.
I believe I see five wires running to each. Part of me thinks this may be a mod, as there are screws instead of rivets holding them in. Also, the power/standby switch holes on the faceplate are cut for the large plastic switches, but there are metal toggles instead. Between those is another switch that is unlabeled as the faceplate was designed for two and is probably a polarity switch, knowing what I know about V4s. This whole amp is a mystery.

You should see number stamped on the plates.
V202, V203 and the board are the reverb circuit for the V-4/VT-22 amp.
Are the wires on the extra sockets on pins 2, 3 4,5 and 8?
That would be the standard wiring for 7027s.
