Ampeg V4 -vs- V4b

When I'm rockin' the tubes, the warm glowing bottles, putting the big fat under the dancing honeys, hitting the one, in the pocket, I've never seen anyone, anyone, care if my amp head overhangs my cabinet.
I had to trim that a little to fit my signature, but the effort was worth it.

Here's my V4B sitting on the newly acquired V4. Looking for some help in dating. The codes on components in the V4B put it at '76. It has 3 prong cord and no polarity switch. It says Magnavox on the back.

The V4 has master volume, 3 prong AND polarity switch, says Selmer on the back. I figure '74/75? Based on the white rockers, 3 prong but still has the polarity switch. No distortion rockers.

i compared all three of mine (two stock V4's and a stock v4B) thru the same cabinet and they all sounded pretty much exactly the same. if there was any difference, IMO, it would've been more due to the different tubes in the three heads rather than the circuit.

+1. I found very little difference between the V4 and the V4B once I got them dialed in similarly. Except the B just got caps and new tubes so has less noise. Just killer! Guess I'll do the same on the V4.

I kinda like the 3 position attenuation rockers on the V4 and the master vol setup. Though there's something nicely simple about just plugging in and turning a volume knob on the V4B.

Still working on posting pics.

Here are some pics of my V4B and V4.

if he doesn't, let me just say that i happen to have...ahem...an sx pj with the original headstock.

:D

:hiding:
Ooooh, a vintage SX! I've heard they smoke not just MIA Fenders, like the current SXs do, but Custom Shop Fenders and Sadowskys too! I hope the V4 owner adds cash in that trade!:D

Jimmy, you got pics?
no way i expected you to take me the least bit seriously, but... ;)

also might be interested in offering up this little number from jay turser as well (amp and devo jb not included, pickguard is included, but it's missing a bracket):

got a few other odds and ends we can go through to fill out the value of the amp if you're interested. but again, i don't want to step on fuzz's toes here.

No, I shoulda put a wink or smiley after the pic request. Nice to see the JB though.

I'll let fuzz get back to my PM before I decide anything on the V4.

Long term I am looking for an affordable 70's SVT, an 8x10 fridge and a 2x15. Oh and also a B-15R. Got lots to sell (basses, amps and cabs)before I can do all that, but those are the things I'm craving right now. Big heavy things.
