Ampeg V6-B 2x15?

Hey folks,

Locally a guy is selling an Ampeg V6-B 2x15 cab
He says it is from the mid seventies,and has Electrovoice EVM15B
speakers in it. He said the speakers have just been re-conditioned.

I am not sure on the condition of the cab, but hope to go check it out tonight.

Anyone own or have experience with these cabs?
Would it be a good match for a SVT-VR?
and is $450 a fair price depending on condition?

i was looking at that too.....450 not me.....theres a mesa ph 410 out there for 600....

Yeah I was interested in the PH 410, but it is an 8 ohm cab
I need a 4 ohm for the svt-vr

Had one for a couple of years and was happy with it. Just be careful with that SVT, especially with the bass control, doubly so if you're playing a 5- or 6-string. That's a ported cab, not a sealed one, so at some frequency the cones will unload and flop around. The SVT's output transformer will mitigate subsonics to some degree, but I can't tell you to what extent, having never bench-tested one. Check the wiring inside to make sure you get the proper impedance match to your SVT. I seem to recall those cabs having an impedance switch (4 or 16) but I could be wrong. (It was in the '70s and my memory's shot to hell.) If it has a switch, make sure it's doing what it claims to do. You could even get in there and bypass it to put both EVMs permanently in parallel -- all that current going through a slide switch gives me the willies. Again, I could be wrong about the switch. I agree $450 sounds high.

$450 is farrrr to much.

You can get an Ampeg 8x10 from the same era for that price... and pretty much everybody wants those.

So, IMHO $250 to $300 is better.
