ampeg vs mesa

well, i'm currently "borrowing" the mesa.

heres the deal

Mesa----for Fender staight out

Ampeg---AMAZING price, then sell Fender and have profit.

AND the ampeg has more power, more benefit, less tubes i think?

Its a USA made Ampeg also.

Since it's a USA 4 Pro, I would feel more confident buying it. If it were Vietnamese or Chinese, I'd say get the Mesa, but now it's a matter of taste. Both amps will get you where you need to go and then some. Play both and buy the one that speaks to you the most.

good answer. go with what jimmy has to say. i forgot that that the 4 pro was made in the usa so now it's up to what you prefer tonally. i just like the big block better. i've never really been a fan of the svt-4 but why would it matter? i have no idea what music you play or what tonal qualities you are shooting for so my opinion may not be worth a penny. the mesa generated more of a ballsy and gritty sound when i played it and it also has an awesome amount of headroom. you should already know this since you're playing with one. as for the svt-4 pro i wasn't too wild about the tone but hey that's me:smug:. on a further note svt-4 pro's have supposed problems of just crapping out. i can not attest to this but in comparison to mesa heads i rarely ever hear of them crapping out unless it's because of tube failure.

I myself usually play rock, alternitive and sometimes harder rock, but i also have a gig playing blues and stuff at a restuarant.

My tone... I like ballsy, i like low end, i like treble/gain. also I'm a purist(mostly), but the OD on that mesa seems awesome..... i haven't played it yet.

The only vice i have is that i have two Bag End cabinets, which like power.

If i have one of my BE's
i can only get 280w from the mesa versus 900 on the Ampeg.
If i use both BE's, i get 550 from the mesa;1200 from the Ampeg.

Thats the big difference to me. and i'd be getting the mesa for free, practically, or getting an Ampeg SVT4PRO that was made in the USA, for less than HALF of list price...

P.S. The ampeg is made in the USA and is also a little bit older. i think 3 years?

and they both speak to me. I need to play that Mesa, but its a LONG drive to where the trade's taking place.
