An affordable solution?

Hi guys,
I have a M-Audio Mobile Pre recording device going into ProTools SE. I record ideas and jams occasionally - hence the outdated setup.
Ive recently been getting lots of “Transport was stopped due to a problem with the external clock source” errors during playback and recording. Its very frustrating! Does anyone know what this error pertains to or what modern alternative solution I should buy would be? (I dont use midi - just record bass and guitar into an average powered laptop).

It sounds like your system is looking for an external word clock beyond the one built into your interface. It's probably just a setting that needs to be changed.

Silky smoove is probably correct, but in general I have been under-impressed with the M-Audio stuff I've personally met. Doesn't help that they muddle with MotU in my brain and MotU is good kinda like M-Audio has not been, so I have to keep double-checking when I trip across their stuff, until I remember which is which. But I have fought with some M-Audio stuff, and come away frustrated. Perhaps you'll do better.

My primary recording has evolved from a MinDisc recorder (so much better than tape) to a HiMD recorder (better yet) to a PDR (Edirol R-09HR - long ago discontinued, still works.) I record without computer, transfer files to computer. For what you are doing that workflow might work(?) - it's not great for multi-trackers (there may be a way to make it work, I haven't tried), but if you are just recording fairly straightforward stuff some sort of PDR does the job simple and cheap (Zoom is mentioned frequently, I think there are Edirols that are still in production, though I know nothing about the current ones, and it's a bridge I won't cross until this one dies or I get a case of expanded needs. Generations of tech frequently pass un-noticed until I need to buy a replacement - the first minidisc came about when I needed a portable tape recorder, and discovered that I'd have been insane to get one, just then.)

Thanks T_Bone_TL . But I wander if there is a clock setting in Protools SE. Ive looked but cant find it.

If I cant find a colution to this then I need another solution that lets me record stuff and layer it ontop of each other in a nice interface (like cubase, protools ectc...)

The clock setting wouldn't be in ProTools unless ProTools is the control software for your interface. Commonly the interface itself will have a piece of control software and in that you can adjust your word clock settings. On some larger interfaces the control is a physical toggle switch on the hardware itself.
