Yep. The thing about them is that they're rarely above a three-band EQ.
Most of these boutique EQ pedals don't tend to be purely an EQ. For those that are, their specialty is capturing the sound-shaping styles of tone stacks on famous amps. For the majority of the rest, they're preamp pedals with EQ controls (like the Sadowsky preamp and many others).

So, what's your preference? A dozen sliders with preset bands and frequency centers, or just a few knobs with particular behaviors and interactions with each other (like passive tone circuits, shelving-band EQs, active equalization, etc.)?
With a good EQ, three or four knobs may be all you need. It all depends on whether or not they work together (and separately) the way you want them to - not all equalizers are created equal.
