Annoying replies on craigslist?

I have never tried to sell a bass on craigslist, but have tried other items. and you get people saying well i can get this and its better and cheaper so drop your price or i go buy the other thing. And then theres scammers who say im very interested in your item will you take a check for 500$ and western union me money back. craigslist is a waste of time

My luck has been good with CL. But I have had my fair share of Morons asking me to trade for tatoo work, furniture, car stereos etc. They will make stupid offers and the such. I get tired of it after a while and I ignore them.

I sold my Jazz 24 on CL a couple of months ago to a cool guy that was good to work with so it's not a total watse of time.

I like Craigslist. I've met some really nice and interesting people as part of my transactions. I met TB'er Dan Knowlton when he bought a bass I had for sale. I met another TB'er when I bought an amp he had for sale on CL. I met Chris, the bass player for "Benedictum" when we traded some gear. I've lucked upon a few killer deals...including a very nice 1998 Washburn XB900 USA bass for $50.

I've also dealt with the usual flakes. I watched a White Fender Hoppus drop from $680 to $500, and then $250 over a 2 week period. I called to make arrangements to pick it up for $250. The lady said I'm the 1st buyer and I could pick it up after 4:30pm on Wednesday (yesterday). So, I drive 45 miles to a very nice house in the middle of nowhere, and have them tell me that they sold the bass and the ad should have been removed. I couldn't really get mad... just another case of too good to be true...was actually too good to be true... but it was also worth a shot.

CL, I'm sure, has plenty of dudes looking to low-ball people to death until they finally give in.... so they can flip the item at a profit. I've bought a few things, and sold one bass cab on CL but in all I think CL pretty much blows. I go with Ebay. The only reason I sold a cab on CL was the shipping issue. Also I got the $$$ I wanted (460 for a Mesa 2x15 Diesel) but not without a s-load of lame questions and low-ball offers for dudes similar to what the OP delt with. Ebay has been worth the price I pay in seller fee's. I find that starting items for sale at a low price helps to get the bid-war going and if I'm worried I set a reserve. The cash shows up in my account, I ship it off, end of story. And usually, it's the guy that never asked me one single, redundant question that wins the bid.

As a buyer: I scored an Aguilar S410 for $250. It was worth having to drive to Atlanta (about 200 miles) and the seller was a stand-up guy in every way.

As a seller: A "potential buyer from Wisconsin" sent me a check for $1200 (for a $200 item) drawn on a check from a company in Texas, then wanted the difference money-grammed to an individual in New York. The signature on the check? Harper Lee (she wrote To Kill A Mockingbird).

I suspect the nice guy in your is getting the better of your conscious.

Don't deal with that guy, and tell him straight up, 'listen, you have annoyed the mess out of me, don't contact me again'.

I tell that to people on CL all the time as everyone thinks they are experts. Thing is, I've sold over 500 instruments for over a grand, and by now I have a good idea of where things are at and what 'compromises' to go for.

People can and will say anything off of craigslist ad, but don't give them the time of day if you are a seller. There are tons of people who will waste your time, so don't mess with it.

So you know, I find selling on CL to take the longest, places like TB and harmony central or the gear page are a fair bit quicker, and ebay is really the fastest place to sell if you know where to price things and can deal with the fees. That said, I do enjoy some of the idiot responses on CL, i have fun with them. If you ever get a suspicious email asking you if the 'item is still available', just say 'the pontoon is stil around'.

My Craigslist has this same guy that has about 100 different items. He posts 50 each day so all the other sellers items get buried beneath his garbage. He was selling a Fender BXR combo amp for $399.00... c'mon dude. Quit posting it every other day atleast. MIM Jazz with nicks and dings for $350. :(

Finding musicians is even worse. Join my metal band, join my cover band or don't play music in this town.
