I'm takeing a serious look at my rig. Here's the crack:-
My first choice of music would be to play original hiphop reggae and modern RnB but there's not much about. Right now I'm in a soul/funk covers band. Let's look at some of the songs;
Band of Gold - Motown classic just pumping bass.
Boogie Oggie Oggie - Late 70s Slap octaves followed by finger style walking chorus.
Waterloo - 70s pop rock
Love Come Down - 80s crunchy synth.
The look of love - smokey upright
I have to say that I can get away with most things with what I have ( see below) but the little optical Compressor is not built for the road. Instead of just looking for a replacement/upgrade, I'm really starting to question what I need in a rig. I need a wide range of sounds. but I also need a good compressor.
The current crop of Virtual amps (V-Amp/Pod) don't seem to take compressor control seriously. If I buy a rack unit I'll need a peddal. (I already have a midi peddle board though). If I go and buy a nice but roadworthy compressor, I'll still need EQ. If I go for a compressor/EQ like the Fat funker or the Navigator I'll miss out on the overdrive and all the FX. I have a DI box but a DI out wouldn't hurt.
The size of rig is unimportant since I can DI out to a quite adiquate front of house. Also, this needs to go in the car along with a PA rig so I don't want 3U and a foot board, and money is tight,so this needs to pay for itself. I might get some thing cheap and workable and bin it later. Abnormal philosophy but technology marches on.
Its driving me nuts. Some of what drives me nuts might be misjudging the choices.
