Hello:
There's literally another thread exactly like this from 8 hours ago from a new guy who used to play the guitar. I have some gear questions.
I play in a cover band and my bass player and I switch a lot so I decided to get my own rig instead of passing a bass back and forth.
AMP: I just bought a GK MB112 (which I got used for $250 [was that a good deal?]) and I hope it's loud enough by itself. Any PA activity is done by ourselves so we don't have a sound man and we have a single JBL PRX718 sub which is 1500 watts I think. So, if need be, I have the horsepower to supplement the amp but I'd rather not deal with the headache. The only other thing we mic consistently is a kick drum. We are a loud-ish 5 piece band and play in smallish bars and occasionally outside. We usually play in bars that have 100-150 (or that's how many there'd be if it was packed). What can I expect for volume performance from my mb112?
NOW I NEED A BASS: my budget is about $1,000. My bass player now uses a Mexican fender jazz and I like it. He also has a Mexican P bass and I don't like it. I'm thinking used American standard jazz or something that plays and sounds like it (what else is there?). I also don't want to play lead bass. I don't need some active pick-up bright punchy slap tone like we're gonna cover Primus all night. I am more of a Berry Oakley tractor bass tone kinda guy
Thoughts?
