ok, two 8 ohm cabs will run on a 4 ohm amp, but a single 8 ohm cab will not, correct?

yes a single 8 ohm cab will run on a 4 ohm amp (you are talking abot a solid state amp right?). When a solid state amp is called a "4 ohm amp", it means that it can safley power a MINIMUM of 4 ohms.

There is no such thing as "ohmage", it's either resistance or, like in this case, impedance.
Any impedance as high as 4 ohms or higher is safe, just don't go below 4 ohms.
