Anthony Jackson Interview (2007)

Brilliant drummer Invalid Link Removed interviewed bass legend Anthony Jackson while the two were playing together. I think this was posted some time ago by Almond, but I hadn't heard it. Cliff Almond rediscovered it and posted it to his site via YouTube. Bookended by intro and outro commentary, it's about a half hour long and covers feel, muting, note values, and touches upon playing with drummers, Buddy Rich, Steve Gadd, Tony Williams. Jackson is very thoughtful and articulate, and Cliff lets him talk. Good stuff, check it out here.

One of the best articles/interviews that Guitar Player ever did (IMO) was with Anthony Jackson in the '80s (Robert Fripp cover)-

That interview oughta be "the model" for Bass Player magazine.
It's long, informative & has zero-fluff factor.

This is a great interview. The fact that he was interviewed by a drummer is nice because the emphasis is on the music and not the gear. I really enjoyed Anthony Jackson talking about playing with drummers and other musicians. His description of getting palm muting together is something anyone just starting it needs to hear just to put things in perspective.

Oh wow, I had that issue of GP. I remember reading that interview several times, and I had picked up Al DiMeola's Elegant Gypsy shortly thereafter. My attitude towards playing bass changed forever after that.
