Any experience with Peavey XR600 PA?

Im looking for a cheap and useful PA head for my practice room. A friend has an old Peavey XR600 that he says works great and is no longer using. He offered to sell it to me for $75. Anyone here with experience using the XR600? Would it suffice for a practice room, or if I decided to run my bass through it?

I have a 1978 XR600 and it's a great PA head for practice, it's about 200 watts (4 ohms). Just clean the pots and jacks as needed and you're good to go. Mine doesn't have XLR mic inputs but that's easily addressed w/adaptor transformers.

Have also used it for outdoor jazz gigs w/DB and electric keyboards, with the right speakers it'll do just fine.

It's only drawback is that it has only one amp. If you want to run monitors you'll need a second amp. That shouldn't be a problem if you're using it for a practice amp.

The newer models have a two assignable amps so you can run main-monitor or L-R.

as you see from the date of manufacture from mine they last a long time and sound good for what they are :cool: If it's $75 and it's in good shape I'd say go for it. Forgot to mention that besides mine another band I'm in uses a slightly newer one and it's the same story, works very well for keyboards and vocals in a pretty loud practice setting using the spkrs that came w/it.

I bought an old Peavey 2x15 today for $150. Didn't have a head for it but I had the old XR600B lying around. Fired it up with the cab not thinking I would be too impressed.....but I was wrong!
It suits the cab perfectly as far as I can tell, and sounds really good to my ears. The cab is a 4ohm 200 watt, and the XR600B happens to run at 210 watts at 4ohms.
Pleasantly suprised by the results.
And I'm playing my Epiphone Goth Thunderbird.
I may not need a dedicated bass head after all......at least not at the moment. I'll try it out with my drummer friend at his rehearsal studio to see how it performs there.
