Any experience with the Nordstrand 51 split J pickups?

So I'm looking to transform my 5 string jazz bass and the Nordstrand 51 split P look very interesting. Would be awesome to get that scpb tone. However I can't find any reviews and only very limited info on YouTube.

Any of you guys can help me out here? What can I expect? A true scpb tone or a different flavor jazz?

As always thanks for your help and happy holidays!

I presume the 51 split J is the same as the 51 split P. So look for the reviews of the latter and you’ll have an idea.

AFAIK, the 51P/SCPB pickup is traditionally positioned a smidge more towards the neck than the J neck pickup, but I presume the sounds are not really distinguishable.

whether a split 51P (or J) sounds anything like a single coil 51P (SCPB) I don’t know. But you might get Nordstrand to wind a 5 string SCPB and put it in J housing…

I have a Crackercaster that has two Nordstrand '51 split coils in it. I have only played this bass at home through a practice amp, but the pickups sound awesome. They don't sound like a regular P, or regular J. More power, very clean, very open (to my ears). In a strange way, they are sort of similar to a Lace Alumitone. In fact, I dug out my Lace bass to compare the two, and they shared a lot of the same tonal characteristics. Both share the characteristics cited above.

It's two of their split 51 P pickups, in single cases. Check reviews and sound clips on the nordy 51 split p pickup, and go from there. I too have pondered these pickups. But, never pulled the trigger.

I love the j blades though. If that helps you out at all.
