Any good fix for this installation "oops"?

How come nobody suggested a nice dark J pickup, like a DiMarzio Model J, wired in series? No routing necessary!

Edit: Sorry, read the thread too fast - BruceWane did suggest this. But I still think it's the most unobtrusive approach.

If you want to keep the EMG, and have options for a pickup swap down the road, this would be my suggestion.

Rout the existing cavity out to a Jazzbucker rout, as has already been suggested. Cut the two bottom mounting tabs off of the Emg Pickup, get a no hole jazz pickup cover, and remove two tabs off of it, and glue the two together. You can put a block of wood in the empty jazz cover to stiffen it up.

Its a cheap fix that will look good if done right, and will allow you to continue using the Jazz pickup you already have. If you decide to change pickups in the future, a different Jazzbucker can then be used in the rout.

Expanding the rout towards the neck and putting in a "double wide" Jazz-style pickup, like the Delano pictured above, or Fender's own double wide Jazz HB is the least invasive and least expensive option.

It does not matter if the physical location of the coils is reversed so that the EA segment is closer to the bridge than the DG segment. I actually prefer it that way to get more definition out of the E string and tame the twang of the G string.
