Any newer bands have frettless songs?

Hey guys we recently decided to do a more top 20 cover gig thing to raise some cash for the studio~ Well we r doing some tunes from bands such as green day , seether, puddle of mudd, that kinda stuff! Well i would be very sad if i couldnt squeese one frettless song in the mix! And bands out there have a frettless player that we could cover a song and the folks would recognize the tune? Colledge age crowds.

Dude! Just play the fretless, maybe 10% will even notice a difference in sound, or better yet, realize you're playing a fretless!

Like the man said, just play fretless.
I've played fretless in Rock, Blues, Pop, Country, and Jazz settings.
Even recorded were people did not know it was fretless.
You don't have to slide notes all the time.
One of my fav, thing to do is to play as clean and as I can. trying to make it sound not like a fretless.
Just play.

And, if you're going to be doing Top 20 covers just to raise money for the studio, concentrate on what tunes are MARKETABLE for a cover band so that you can get hired and make the $$$, not by what instruments are on the original.

While I am with the other guys saying just play your fretless and be clean and happy, I do not think it answers your question.

Unfortunately for you all the new top 20 stuff is either, punk/rock with picked precision, or it is fingered/slapped all the time. But if you venture into the alt rock a little, and offer your own twist on lines, I have heard some sick John Mayer covers on a fretless, and a girl named Rachael Yamagata is hitting the airwaves with a fretless BG/upright player. I saw them live here in Chicago when my brother's band opened and they ripped.

Again though, like previously said. Most people aren't going to notice the diff, unless you are always sliding into notes. While it may be cool here and there it can be too much at times. IMHO.

Not that new, but they influenced some of the bands you listed. Pearl Jam had a good number of fretless ditties.

Hey thanks for the ideas! I hate playing covers!!!!! But thought hey might as well do it and get back out there! It really doesnt have to be New New songs i guess songs within the last 10 years or so! Just stuff that people will remember and like!lol

Hmmm, I thought that Jason played fretless on Until It Sleeps only?
Anyway, wouldn't call it todays' top 20, it was released in '96... But back then...

It's been awhile since I heard that album so I couldn't verify, but I believe two or three tracks are fretless.

As far as newer music, In Absentia by Porcupine Tree is all fretless I believe. Released in 2003 or 2004. Granted it's not Top 40.

Certainly not top 40 but Visions From the Spiral Generator by Vintersorg is entirely fretless (its another Steve D. project for you Death/Testament/Sadus/Dragon Lord fans.

Can't remember the guys name but he plays Dean 6 stringers. He's really good...if you wanna see some good "Rockabilly" action check out the album "Soul Gravy"...it's got a bonus DVD in it where they totally owned a club in South Texas. It's a good buy IMHO.
