Any other bassists here who are also drummers?

Yeah, I play drums as well. 'Been playin' bass since '75, and drums since '78. Drummin' is fun at jam sessions, as you don't have to worry about playin' the right notes, just all rhythm and dynamics. I dig it!

Actually I was a guitarist who wanted to be a drummer but had no way or place to practice drums, to me the bass was a happy medium :) But I'm saving up for an electronic set so I can still practice in my apartment!

Right on with the e-drums. That's what I ended up getting. I have a Hart Dynamics Pro set. They are a beautiful thing as I can sit in my music room and jam away with my iPod and play through headphones and not bother anyone...neighbors or family.

I always wanted to drum ever since I first saw Ringo when I was kid. My parents were having none of it. They made me take piano lessons, which, in retrospect was a good thing as it taught me how to read and understand music.

When I quit piano, my mom asked me what I wanted to play...drums I said. NO she told me. For some reason she then proceeded to buy me a banjo and enrolled me in lessons....WTH???? I still do not know what possessed her to do so. I still begged to play the drums, but was told in no uncertain terms that wasn't going to happen. So one day at banjo lessons :confused:, I started messing around with a Jazz bass copy (the mighty Cortez brand :D) at the music store I took the lessons at. That was all she wrote and that Jazz Bass copy became my first bass. I was 13 at the time and been doing it ever since (I'm 48 now). The drum bug was always there, but it never worked out until the e-drums came along. They are a lot of fun!

Yep. I started out as a drummer in 1980 and jammed/gigged as a drummer for a few years. I had picked up electric guitars several times at jam sessions just to see what they were like, but they didn't do anything for me.

Then, for some reason, I picked up a bass. A Fender Precision, but that's not really relevant. I expected it to feel like just another electric guitar, but WOW! It was like I was meant to hold that instrument. The strings and neck... even the feel of the body... everything... just felt so right in my hands. Within a few months, I had borrowed a bass from a friend and was on my way to becoming a bass player.

Within a year, I was playing bass in a band and had my drums up for sale to finance a decent instrument and amp. I still play drums and own a set again after many, many years without one. Drums are fun, but I'm definitely a bass player first.

Yes, been playing bass for 25+ years. Been playing drums off and on my whole life. More comfortable on bass, but nothing beats knocking out a fun beat once in a while, so I got a nice simple drumkit. Kick, snare, floor tom, hats, crash& ride.

I am not the biggest fan of toms but a floor tom is a must (I love the boom)...

The quest for the killer snare is almost as endless as the quest for the best J-tone.

Yep, playing drums since '92 and bass since '08. Had to ease up on the drumming due to a shoulder injury which is why I took up bass. Still gettin' the theory under my belt, which is more extensive from a melodic standpoint obviously, but I'm loving every minute of it. Looking forward to the time when I can genuinely call myself both a drummer and a bass player.
