Played the 50s precision and the 60s jazz today at guitar center. Both needed a little setup, as the frets buzzed a lot in some spots BUT the neck on these feel absolutely incredible! Its a matter of personal preference I guess, they are well finished and glossed like the japanese models, and the Precision has a big chunky neck.

I played the 50s precision today, amazing construction, the finish, frets and everything looks perfect, i loved the sound, i could get a very modern sound just rolling the tone knob.... thats the first bass on my G.A.S. list.

Do you mean thick/deep or wide? I love a flat/shallow and wide P neck, the way they started out, but hate those chunky 1/2 baseball bats.
Then the 50s Precision is the opposite of what you prefer.
I took one home a few days ago.
Simply amazed by it, the finish, the feel and the sound.
For years a fretless MIM jazz was my only bass. So it was always akward playing a fretted from time to time.
But not with the 50 CV. I love the 9.5" radius. To me it feels natural.
I do have big hands though.
On this bass I can play chords with ease, and play blind.
It was an impulse buy, but I love it. I call it: my "feel good" bass.
I'm still in the market for a good fretless though. The Tony Franklin is high on my list.

I'm thinking of replacing the pickup with a SD BassLines Quarterpounder.
And flatwound strings on it.
I have a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass (no pics of it yet though). Absolutely stunning-a step up in terms of quality from the already brilliant Vintage Modied series! The finish on the neck is stunning, the bridge is excellent and the tone is incredible. It's simply a joy to play! At this rate I'm thinking the American Fenders are starting to feel overpriced when you see what Squier are doing in the low cost bracket! Absolutely ridiculous!

Pros Looks great, is light weight (though that may certainly vary from bass to bass), sounds decent (even without modification, though shielding may be required) and carries a price tag of $300
Cons Pickups may not be suitable for some, may have some grounding/hum issues, may have stiff tuners, some may not like the finish on the back of the neck and it carries a price tag of $300

THANKS guys! but guess what.....NO ONE in town has them in stock.....grrr.. i don't really want to order one in case i don't like it when it comes. im gonna call one last place that usually has a fair amount of squires but stock is sometimes low.

Yeah, that is one sweet bass.
Perhaps I should do an extensive review about it...
And figure out how to post soundclips.
I'll get some photos of my bass tomorrow and get them on here. It's certainly a nice looking piece of gear!
It really is a sweet bass. I was amazed by the finish on the neck and really happy that it had belly and arm contours... making it much lighter and more comfortable than regular 51 Reissues.
The bassist fro The Sword was using a 50's P with flats at a concert I went to the other night. It had a badass bridge on it, and he was playing through a cranked SVT through an 8x10. Massive and clear.
oh you mean this one? lol what do you think got me so into this damn bass!!! they ****ing killed the other night when i saw em, clutch rocked too but the sword blew me away.

I've got one! I got a black Fender '51 RI pickguard to swap out for the white but it doesn't fit. The Fender is bigger and the holes don't line up. Not sure what I'm going to do. Paint the white one maybe?
I replaced the stock pots with full size CTS but I need to get new knobs because the stock ones won't fit on the larger CTS shafts. (I had to enlarge the control plate holes a bit, too) I also replaced the socket with a 'football' flush mount jack so my 'L' cords will work. I'm keeping the stock pickup for now. I'm considering a replacement but I want to get used to this one before making any decisions.

looks great! how much bigger is the 51 pick gaurd? the holes not lining up doesn't bother me much, it's easy to drill holes.
It's not too much different--just enough to be a PITA. Both horns will need to be trimmed, especially the lower. It'll also need to be trimmed to fit between the neck and the pickup. Right now it's too long and won't sit flush without pushing the pickup way over towards the bridge. Not sure how it'll line up with the control plate until it's trimmed enough to lay flat.

And The Sword killed! They were awesome.
But he definitely had the duncan designed pickups in it still. I was standing front and right the entire show, so I was two feet from all of the bassist the entire night.
OT, but what did you think of Graveyard? I though they were pretty good.
