Anybody install bass traps?

I'm not sure what forum to post this in. I'm interested in improving the horrible acoustics in my basement practice room. Its about 30x11 with a floating ceiling. Not much sounds good down there (partly me I'm sure :) ). I've read up on room acoustics and I think bass traps might help. Has anybody installed these with any success? I'll probably buy a cheap $30 sound meter today and do some testing with a free sound files I downloaded. Perhaps this will confirm whats going on before I spend more $$$ building some bass traps. I've also thought about sub dividing the room with bass trap type dividers. Any input is appreciated.

I just put in the London 12 pkg. from Primacoustics. My room is 24x12 and the difference is huge. These bass traps are simply bigger wall panels that go in the corner. I've used the cheaper Auralex foam panels and corner traps before and they work well but get dusty and age a bit over time.
The Primeacoustics are simply compressed insulation covered in cloth - easy to replicate except they have a 45deg bevel that makes them look nicer. The kit made a huge improvement by treating one end and leaving the other end 'live'.
If you can get to an L&M they have they're own stock of no-name eggshell foam that's about 1/2 the cost of Aurolex.

Measurements a great idea to start with. Who knows? Maybe the bass isn't the main problem.

Instead of the cheap sound meter you could save the money for a good mic to measure with.

There's plenty of PC tools, if you're going to record with a PC you might already have all you need to measure. IK Multimedia ARC system 2 comes with a measurement mic and can be had for $200. You can use it before and after you treat the room. It could save you a few bucks, or let you know you need a lot more than what you expect.
