Anybody Salsa ! Bachata ! Merengue !

Yes, latin music is about feel, but the tone of the bass is so huge in some styles because it really functions as the kick drum.

Can't you also mute with your palm and pluck with your thumb if you don't want that foam mute all of the time? I play tunes where some of the players are obviously using a baby bass, but others are using a fretted bass with roundwounds. TIs would be a good compromise for me because when TIs are not muted they still have a good top end brightness.

TI's are $$$ GHS Precision flats on a P or Telecaster for the typical sound but like anything else I think a big round dark sound will work can't imagine marcus miller playing cumbias although he would kick ass at it and listen to a song like dejate querer that has to be a jazz bass
