I appreciate the heck out of vintage basses, but I don't collect them for obviou$$ reason$$. If I DID collect them, I would buy this bass at this price - no question! Those old scroll-head Ampegs are classic for sure. Rick Danko played one (not this particular model) when they filmed The Last Waltz.

In the body underneath the bridge. It was called the "mytery pickup". They have some info about it on this page http://xstrange.com/asb1.html

Those are very rare, and that one looks to be in great shape :D

I'd expect the final price to be considerably higher than what is bid right now ....

I saw one of these in a music store in Prairie Village, Kansas in 1965, and I have wanted one ever since!!!

I heard the fretless devil played that day, and it sounded A LOT like the P-bass '65 P-bass the same guy played just before it, but I am thinking the tone control was rolled-off all the way. Dark fretless goodness! :D :D :D

I wish I could afford to bid on this one, but WAIT...doesn't someone make a reissue of various fretless Ampeg scroll head basses??? :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

There's only one guy that does a decent re-issue; nice basses, not cheap tho.
He's mentioned a few posts up.
