Anybody tried "Bass for Dummies"?

It's been around for awhile so there are quite a few TB threads on it. Here's one:

Most of what I do came right out of Dummies. Covers all the fundamentals like how to hold your bass, how to tune it, how to get sound from it, etc. Then the charts and patterns are second to none.

I think it's very good. I bought it quite some time back, when I first took up bass again, and I still keep it close at hand as a great reference source.
I chose Bass for Dummies when I decided to learn to play, having had no formal music education since grade school (many, many moons ago).
The advantage of this over learning from the web, YouTube, a stack of Hal Leonard books, or even a teacher, is that it is efficient. The author and the Dummies editors cover everything but don't waste your time with BS. I read it cover to cover, learned the language of music, internalized the lessons, then began the long process of practicing and beginning to make music. It worked for my personality type.
I read a bunch of reviews and many people seemed to like this book better than the alternatives.
Gotta say I quickly got bored with the audio portion of the book on CD. That is where I preferred to go to YouTube to find practice lessons with a little more funk and groove.

I guess I was thinking of some video lessons where the teacher drones on with anecdotes, or having to watch repetitive introductions and greetings in every segment of a YouTube series. ...umm, I may have have ADD ...
I've never read that particular book, but the author Patrick Pfeiffer wrote another book called "Improve Your Groove" that is absolutely excellent. It really breaks down the concept of groove to an almost mathematical level. I highly recommend it.
thanks for the replies. I'll try it out. I often find myselfaway from Technology (generally by choice and love reading) so it seems like a good fit. Thanks also for the links. I've saved them and will be using them some too.
