Anyone catch the VICE 'Climate Change' Episode?

Just wondering if anyone caught the VICE episode last week on the heavy topic of global warming. Great episode, though sad. I always feel so hopeless when I watch these documentaries because I know so many people could care less about these world wide issues. Either way, the episode only made me more of an environmentalist than before and I'll try and spread the word whenever I can!

Mhmm, mhmm. Its just that were seeing such a rapid climb worldwide, not to mention a huge rise in CO2 levels in our atmosphere, which we are responsible for unlike the dinosaurs or the sabre tooth. While I would like to see the human race live on for as long as possible, the planets overall well being and how our behaviour affects our animal kin is what is most important to me.

But me and you are not Earth, it's ok for us to care. If we are causing the global warming, and we can do things to slow it down or stop it, I'd like it if we did.

I don't know. But my ignorance doesn't matter. If someone could do something to change it, they should. And if getting worked up is what it takes to force this someone to change their ways, so be it. I'm not saying that getting riled up is necessary or even helpful, or that this someone exists. But I wouldn't discard that possibility, we know too little.

Have you ever seen this video? For the past couple years I've been trying to be selective about letting people infect me with their emotions. That way I have more energy to put towards the things that I want to be emotionally invested in. It's not apathy. I think of it as conserving the limited ****s I have to give.

I'm not sensing apathy, but defeatism. Maybe you're wrong and there's something that can be done. I don't know. If there is, then it's very worth being emotionally invested in it. Until then, curiosity is enough, and of course it's ok to focus on other issues too.

The only thing I'm defeatist about is that in my 40s I don't have the unlimited emotional energy to invest like I did when I was in my 20s.

That cover may be fake, (my understanding is that it was created to make a point); however, the fact remains that on June 24th 1974 Time magazine ran a story entitled Another Ice Age.
TIME Magazine Archive Article -- Another Ice Age? -- Jun. 24, 1974

Newsweek also ran several articles on global cooling, such as the April 1975 article called The Cooling World.

So while that cover may be fake, I'm old enough, and I remember those global cooling stories first hand.

Those were media sensationalist stories. A scientist proposed a global cooling hypothesis--without any research to back it up--and the media jumped on it. The greenhouse effect has been known for over a century. I'm old enough to remember the global cooling hypothesis--and it was definitely NOT accepted by mainstream scientists.

If anyone ever suggests that journalists do not matter in the big picture, that particular hyped story about global cooling is an example of how much damage they can do to humanity. 'Journalists' putting shocking stories on covers to sell copies are not harmless people making a quick buck. Pure negligence and irresponsibility.
