I understand the Guild Signature Starfire bass (all 70 of them!) came with D'Addario Chromes. Those of you who got one... I was wondering how you found those strings. Did you change to a different set of flatwounds? If so, what kind?

Anyone changed strings on the Chris Hillman Signature Guild Starfire?

I tried a set of TI Jazz flats on mine, but went back to the Chromes. I love TI’s on my 34” scale basses, but all my shorties are strung with Chromes. I have yet to play a ss set of flats that I like more.
Did the T-I's fit okay? I thought they didn't fit without winding string rather than silk on the E string.

My original Starfire, the one before I got the Hillman reissue, had green tape wounds. Haven't tried others, yet.
I find the chromes way too bright and clangy. The E string especially just clangs against the frets.
If you want the feel of flatwounds and the sound of roundwounds, chromes may be just the ticket. Not for me. I'm waiting on a set of Pyramid flats which I ordered direct from the company.

I’m getting a Starfire II delivered tomorrow and I plan to change to flats on it. Which specific strings have people used, i.e. what is the correct length to fit the bass? I may stop in the music store today and pick up a set and I want to make sure I get the correct ones. Thanks.
I can tell you that the d'addario chromes ECB81M fit perfectly on the new Starfire bass. You need medium scale. They need to be about 34 inches from ball to silk. La Bella medium scale flats should also fit. And there's also the DR medium scale flatwounds. Guild shipped the Hillman signature Starfire with D'Addario Chromes but I found them downright clangy. I prefer the sound and feel of pure nickel so i ordered a set direct from pyramid.
