25 days now. easier than I thought.![]()
Happy to hear that things are going well for you!
I am currently doing the same thing as you are... I was sitting around last week, and it occurred to me that I couldn't remember the last time I had gone a day without a beer (I'm guessing it might have been about 2 years).
I have lived alone for quite a while and come home to an empty house every night. My work schedule is pretty insane (10 hour days, plus a 90 minute commute each way), so I don't really get the chance to go out and socialize. It was just natural for me to be tired and bored at home. A way to relieve the boredom was to reach into the fridge and grab a beer. Somewhere along the line, my beer a night turned into a six-pack without my realizing it. As a result, it's been two years of being exhausted every morning before work, and making up for it by sleeping until the afternoon on weekends. The crappy diet and sleep schedule has also led to 35 extra pounds and some high blood pressure.
It's only been a week for me, but I am noticing just how much better I feel every morning. Instead of sleeping in the van to and from work, I am actually getting things done. I also hope to drop my blood pressure and weight, and start riding my bike again once the weather gets a bit warmer here (I used to race 15 or so years ago, and have always loved riding).
Funny... I never felt addicted to the alcohol (never thought about drinking while at work, etc.), just the habit of reaching into the fridge. I suppose the hardest part of this for me is breaking that "habit" part of the whole thing and finding other ways to divert my attention.
Anyway, this is your thread, not mine, so I'll stop writing now lest this turns into a hijack. Again, I am glad things are going well for you right now.
