Anyone ever read this book?

I had a lunch break to blow at Borders today, and I looked over their bass-oriented books.

This looks like one of the best bass books out there, but I would appreciate some opinons from anyone here who has read it.

The Bass Handbook: A Complete Guide for Mastering the Bass Guitar (Paperback) by Adrian Ashton

I am looking at it for three main reasons:

Basic bass and music theory (it looks good in this area)

Ease of use (lookin' good here, too)

An overview of the instrument from its history, buying tips, playing tips, etc. (Not sure in this regard)

Opinions?

(I'm thinking this book is a good investment, and come payday next week, I'm going to get it, but would love others' opinions first.)

I'd be wary of anything calling itself "a complete guide to mastering" anything....

Agreed, that's why I'd like to get anyone's take who's read this book.

If I end up getting it (looks probable) I may end up writing a review for it for this forum. I like to spread the love!

my opinion is that most of the things you will read in there are readily available here and other places on the internet. however, im the kind of guy who likes to have it all written down for me to see, and if thats your thing too, then its cool. in the end, most of the material you probably could find out elsewhere, but its not a bad investment.

There are hundreds of books like this now - it's probably OK, but nothing beats being able to ask a person a question, face-to-face and have them show you how it relates to your playing particularly...?

I had these same feelings, but I do like having stuff in one place, book-form.

I saw this book today at B&N. IMHO, it tries to cover too many bases in too few pages. I would get separate books on playing and basses themselves.

I think I agree.

This book seems like this is more light reading, which is my speed for now. For more in-depth looks at basses/technique/etc., I will have to go to other books later.
