Anyone familiar with the El Whappo?

I have a Mesa 400+ Tube amp and want a good cabinet to go with it. I am seriously considering the El Whappo. The best price I have found new is $1650. A lot of coin for something I have never heard. Any advice? I play a Pedulla and Carl Thompson 5 string both active. Music is rock, blues, progressive, metal. (Primus, Rush, Chili's, Kings X) Thanks in advance for the advice!

i've played one a couple of times and i think it would be a great cab under that amp...i considered buying one to put under my SVTII for a long while before eventually going with a pair of tri112s instead for more portability...

there are lots of people here more qualified than myself to speak to this though, hopefully a few will chime in and maybe a couple have even used the 400+ / whappo rig themselves

I currently have a Whappo and have been using it with my Mesa Walkabout head with great results. I also use it with an Aguilar DB750 and an Ampeg SVT-CL. I believe this is one of the best cabs I have ever used. But, I believe it is best for non-crowded sonic spaces. It absolutely kills in a three-piece because it covers so much sound with an evenly balanced nature. If you are one of those players that needs to compete with other instruments (especially keys, and/or multiple guitars) I choose the Berg HT322 because it cuts through better. Do you need to cut through or fill space?

We are a 4 piece with 2 guitars, but one of them also plays trumpet and just sings at times. I like the thought of having the fuller cab and thinning it out if I have to. Does that make sense?

Sounds like a Whappo may be in your future! Consider the Whappo Jr., as many here prefer the slightly smaller dimensions and tighter bottom. I have two friends that turned their Whappos in for two Tri112s to increase portability. I would rather the Tri112 and the new 115. That said, I will be keeping my Whappo for some time to come!
