When I went to college, the www was not available. We had to actually walk to the library, otherwise known as "the stacks", to physically look through a huge file system called the "card catalogue" to find what we needed for our research projects. Once we found what we were looking for, we had to follow the code on the card to actually walk to the specific part of the library where the information was stored, pinpoint the document(s), book, periodical, etc., pull it off the shelf, then actually open it and read it. We used a utensil called a pen to write,in cursive, onto pieces of paper the information we needed from the book,document, periodical, etc. After gathering all of the information needed for our research paper, many times from multiple trips to the card catalogue and back to the "stacks", we went back to our dorm and rewrote our papers by typing them with a tool called a "typewriter". A typewriter was like a printer, but it didn't have ink…..it had something call a "ribbon" and these hard metal things with letters on them smacked the tape and printed a letter into the paper………that's some weird stuff, huh!!! Some of the fancy electric typewriters even allowed you to correct typing errors, but only if you hadn't already hit "return"to start another line of text. Don't ask how we corrected previous errors after hitting the return key……it was a NIGHTMARE!!!!! Yeeeaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!
