Anyone have experience with BASSMODs Basses?

I thought about buying one over a year ago, but the Bass Mods basses tend to be on the heavy side.
Unless something has changed, the lightweight chambered bodies are also heavy! My definition of heavy if 9.5 lbs and above.

FWIW, a few well known bassists are now playing Bass Mods basses.

Yeah they just came out with an Ethan Farmer model 4 and 5, plus Chip Shearin is using them too.

I would have thought that a chambered bass would be in the sub 9's though. My Fender Am Del 5 Jazz is over 11lbs; so having another 5 string that's 9.5 or less would be really nice.. Ah, gotta love the GAS...

I believe the person I spoke to was the Bass Mods owner. The two basses that I inquired about were both over 9.5 lbs and chambered.
He mentioned that they would try to make them lighter in the future. If you can get one that weighs 9.5 lbs or less, I think you will
be extremely happy with your Bass Mods bass.

Your Fender Am. Del. is over 11 lbs.? WOW! :(

Yes I own a BassMods bass. It's a 7 string. Light it ain't! It weighs 11 pounds 14 ounces! It has a spalted maple top and back over Walnut! It is absolutely BEEOOOTIFUL! Note I also own a Conklin 7 string and it is 12 pounds (!!) and has an ash body. Luckily weight doesn't much bother me. Most of my basses are ash and pretty heavy.

To compare the BassMods to the Conklin, the Conklin is very bright, airy, articulate, and VERY modern. Yeah, I LOVE it for 7 string. To me the Conklin (Bill Dickens model) is the ultimate 7 string bass. The BassMods has a tone and feel that is very much less extreme and much more like your standard run of the mill 6 string bass. And Indeed that was EXACTLY why I bought it! I bought it to have a contrast with the Conklin tone... and also because the look pretty much matches my EMG LTD spalted maple over ash 6 string (also VERY heavy 12 pounds 4 ounces) so it gives me a nice 6 string/7 string spalted pair. Note the EMG LTD also has a very standard 6 string tone too, but both those basses play like butter.

That's about what I know.

You are right on the heavy side, I have a K5 fretless and it weighs 12lbs...
